About us

Parents Voice began with a small group of dedicated parents who wanted their voices to be heard in respect of the provision available for ther children with special educational needs. This core group of volunteers paved the way for the formation of Parents Voice and some continue to provide the drive and enthusiasm that keeps the group going.

Supporting and working alongside the core members are the steering group. This currently consists of parents who give their time on a voluntary basis and who meet at least monthly to decide on the direction of the group and ensure any decisions made are acted upon. Many members of the steering group have links with support groups already running on the Isle of Wight and some sit on other steering groups whose aims have much in common with the purpose and aims of Parents Voice.

Parents Voice, however, could not exist without a larger membership. Many parents do not have the time to attend reular meetings but would still like to be kept informed of the work of Parents Voice and have the chance for their voice to be heard. These parents make up the forum members whose views are sought by the steering group when further input and information is needed before any decisions can be made.

Parents who have a little more time to spare and who may have an interest in a particular area of childrens disability services may become more closely involved by joining the consultation group. This group of parents may, from time to time, be asked to work more closely with the steering group. The exact nature of this group and the form their input will take will become clearer as Parents Voice evolves.
